Former ambassadors wives fete senior citizens

The Former Ambassadors Wives Association (FAWA) has feted over 50 members of Help Age Ghana (HAG), as part of activities marking Ghana’s 59th Independence Anniversary.

The annual event, held at Labone in Accra, brought together the elderly and the needy. They wined and dined, danced to some old highlife and gospel tunes and received parcels from FAWA.

Show of gratitude

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the President of the Association, Mrs Grace Asante, said the reception was the association’s way of showing love and appreciation to the senior citizens who had served the nation in various ways during their prime.

“This is a way of showing our gratitude to the elderly for the roles they played in the country’s development,” she said.

Mrs Asante said the responsibility was now on the younger generation to continue the good works of the senior citizens by working harder to make the nation a better place to live in.

“This is our country and since we have nowhere else to go, there is the need to do all that we can to make it an enjoyable place for everyone,” she added.

The Senior Nursing Officer of Help Age Ghana, Ms Vivian Schandorf, thanked FAWA for its kind gesture and appealed to other philanthropists to contribute to the operations of HAG.

“Adopt-A-Granny”

Ms Schandorf expressed the need for members of the public to patronise the “Adopt-A-Granny” initiative of HAG so as to make the aged comfortable.

She explained that under the initiative, whoever adopted a granny provided her basic needs while the adopted granny stayed in her own home or place of residence.

Help Age Ghana is a non-governmental organisation which brings together the elderly and needy and provides their basic health needs.
