The Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMCs) has presented cheques for a total of GH¢80,000 to three hospitals in Accra and the Joy FM Needy Fund to support the treatment of victims of the June 3, 2015 fire and flood disasters that occurred at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), 37 Military Hospital and Police Hospital and the Joy FM Needy Fund each received GH¢20,000.
The Board Chairman of the AOMCs, Mr Emmanuel Abledu, presented the cheques on behalf of the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).
He described the AOMCs support as its ‘widow’s mite’ to the survivors of the incidents and to also help replenish stocks in the hospitals.
Mr Abledu commended the authorities of the three hospitals for their sustained efforts to provide medical care for the victims.
Twin disaster victims
Currently, there are six victims of the flood and fire disasters on admission at the KBTH and 37 Military Hospital. Others who were admitted to the Police Hospital have been discharged.
However, most of the victims visit the hospitals on out-patient basis for treatment and dressing.
Safety measures
The Commanding Officer of the 37 Military Hospital, Col. Samuel Adjei, received the cheque and thanked the AOMCs on behalf of the victims and the hospital for the support.
He said their gesture would supplement the government’s effort to sustain the patients.
The acting Director of the National Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre (NRPS&BC) of KBTH, Dr Opoku Ware Ampomah, said the number of burns cases had increased due to gas and petrol explosions.
He, therefore, urged the association to adhere to the safety cultures and precautionary measures at the fuel stations to minimise the explosion rate.
Joy FM fund
Meanwhile, the Joy FM Needy Fund set up by the Multimedia Group Limited to support victims of the flood and fire disasters has accumulated GH¢200,000.
The Programmes Director of Joy FM, Mr Kofi Ansah, told the Daily Graphic that the fund had completed its first phase, which was to donate relief items to victims of the disaster.
He said the second phase, which is to present seed capital to some victims of the disaster to restart their businesses, would commence from September 1, this year.
