Free medical screening, treatment for Glefe residents

The Dansoman branch of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall last Saturday organised a free medical screening exercise for residents of Glefe, near Dansoman in Accra. More than 800 residents benefitted from the exercise, while the children were dewormed.

Beside the screening, members of the community were educated on cholera, the responsible use of medicine and the need to visit the hospital.

The exercise formed part of the society’s charitable activities planned for deprived communities.

Diagnosis

The Grand Knight of the Dansoman Knights and Ladies of Marshall, Dr Henry Awuviri, told journalists that it came to their notice that about 99 per cent of the community members were not on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

He said the medical outreach programme, therefore, enabled some of the residents to receive medication to improve their health conditions.

He said water borne diseases, malaria, diarrhoea and skin infection were the commonly diagnosed ailments, adding that many of the affected persons were not even aware of their conditions, hence the need for the organisation to undertake such outreach programmes.

The Noble Lady, Sister Margaret Awumee, expressed concern about the environment in which the people were living and appealed to the government to come to the aid of the residents.
