The presentation was in fulfilment of a pledge the assembly made two weeks ago to the contractors to settle its indebtedness to the them. The AMA was indebted to the contractors to the tune of GH¢2.2 million.                                                                                                                           Already, the assembly has paid the contractors GH¢1.2 million it owed them.

Presenting the cheque, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the AMA, Mr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, said the AMA had taken much effort to get the contractors paid so they could go about their work without hindrance.

He has, therefore, urged the media to hold operators of the landfill sites responsible whenever the city was found engulfed in filth. He said the “AMA in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development expects the landfill sites to be kept open for the dumping of refuse.”

He praised the assembly for making the disposal of waste and its management a priority. He assured the public that the landfill sites would be opened daily for the dumping of refuse.

“We will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the day and from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. during the night from Monday to Sunday,” he said.
