MTNGH records over 788k shares traded but closes lower on Ghana Stock Exchange
The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) ended trading Session 7210 on a mixed note Wednesday, with the benchmark GSE Composite Index declining while the financial stocks gauge recorded gains, official data has shown.
The GSE Composite Index fell by 168.89 points to close at 14,352.08, down from Tuesday’s closing figure of 14,520.97. In contrast, the GSE Financial Stocks Index advanced by 31.32 points to settle at 8,049.64.
Market capitalisation closed at GH¢264.55 billion, slightly lower than the previous session’s GH¢264.95 billion.
A total of 1,065,672 shares were traded across the bourse, generating a total value of GH¢5.79 million.
Scancom PLC, trading under the ticker MTNGH, dominated activity for the day. The telecoms firm recorded a volume of 788,826 shares, representing the bulk of total trades. Despite the high volume, the stock closed at GH¢6.52, down by GH¢0.19 from its previous closing price of GH¢6.71. The closing bid price stood at GH¢6.50 while the offer price was GH¢6.71.
Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, or ETI, was another active counter. The stock traded 81,780 shares and closed at GH¢1.48, representing a gain of GH¢0.11 from its previous close of GH¢1.37. During the session, the stock touched a high of GH¢1.50.
Cal Bank PLC recorded 171,434 shares traded, the highest volume among financial stocks. The counter closed flat at GH¢0.80, having dipped to an intraday low of GH¢0.79.
Access Bank Ghana PLC saw 759 shares change hands, closing at GH¢27.60, a decline of GH¢3.00 from its previous close of GH¢30.60. GCB Bank PLC traded 4,438 shares and remained unchanged at GH¢36.00.
Ghana Oil Company, or GOIL, eased marginally by GH¢0.01 to close at GH¢7.94 on volume of 7,726 shares. TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana PLC closed flat at GH¢34.89 after 1,234 shares were traded. Unilever Ghana PLC also closed unchanged at GH¢30.00 on volume of 390 shares.
The Ghana Alternative Market recorded no trades for the session. Samba Foods, Meridian Marshalls, Hords, Intravenous Infusions, and Digicut all reported zero volumes and zero values.
