Free Zones enterprise supports Adeiso Health Centre

Hans Peter Wedder (HPW) Fresh and Dry Limited, a free zones enterprise engaged in the export of fresh and dry fruits and vegetables, has donated assorted medical equipment to the Adeiso Health Centre in the Eastern Region.

The equipment, valued at GH₵10,000, and which included three hospital beds, eight mattresses, five refuse bins, five drip stands, a handwashing facility and a water closet, were meant to ease the pressure on the health facility.

Currently, the six-bed capacity health centre records a daily average patient attendance of 40 but lacks the capacity to efficiently deliver health care to the public.

Donation

At a short ceremony at the health facility  to deliver the items, the Health and Safety Officer of HPW Fresh and Dry, Mr Michael Nii Adjei Fume, said the health centre was the first port of call for the company’s workers who fell sick so it was important to help resource it.

“Anytime our employees need medical care, they come to this health centre first. We, therefore, see it as a responsibility to equip it with facilities {for it} to improve upon healthcare delivery,” he said.

Challenges of the health centre

The Physician Assistant in charge of the Adeiso Health Centre, Mr Michael Owusu Larbi, who received the items for the facility, said the donation was timely.

He said the delay in the release of money owed the facility by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) made it difficult for the health centre to acquire the necessary drugs for improved healthcare delivery.

“We have only seven enrolled nurses, three pharmacy technicians, two record keepers and a labourer. So, we are handicapped in terms of personnel,” he said.
