GAF enhances skills of defence attachés
The Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Mathew Quashie, has advised defence attaches (DAs) to regularly review their strategies to be abreast of modern trends.
He said Information and Communication Technology (ICT) had changed the way things were done, hence the need for DAs to regularly review their strategies to cater for possible shortfalls and oversights in the discharge of their duties.
He was speaking at the closing ceremony of a four-day seminar organised by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to equip DAs with the requisite knowledge and skills to enhance their roles in foreign relations practice.
The seminar was intended to help the DAs and their spouses familiarise themselves with contemporary practices and protocols in foreign relations.
The 11 DAs, together with their spouses, were taken through key issues, including foreign service regulations, diplomatic practices, protocol and comportment at post, diplomatic life abroad and the role of the spouses.
Vice Admiral Quashie said performance expectation from the DAs were high as the GAF were on the threshold of a massive take-off aimed at repositioning the military to meet the demands of contemporary security.
Vice Admiral Quashie further entreated the spouses to offer continuous and unflinching support at all times, saying, “the numerous visits to your residence should be considered as part of the job and all your guests must be welcomed warmly irrespective of the domestic challenges.”
