The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has temporarily suspended the recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra following the deadly stampede on Wednesday morning.
The suspension, which is only for today, has been rescheduled into segments for the NAVY, Army and Air Force.
Screening for the Air Force will resume on Thursday, November 13, while the Navy and Army screenings are now scheduled for Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Officials also noted that the overwhelming number of applicants has disrupted internet connectivity at the venue, further contributing to delays and confusion that led to the temporary suspension of the exercise.
According to a statement from GAF, the decision to suspend the exercise on Wednesday was to allow a comprehensive review of safety protocols following a tragic incident that resulted in multiple casualties.
GAF officials have reported that at least six potential recruits have died and several others sustained injuries after a stampede occurred at approximately 6:20 a.m., when a surge of applicants breached security barriers and rushed the gates. In total, 28 casualties have been confirmed.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has paid a visit to victims of the stampede that occurred at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on November 12, 2025.
He was accompanied on the visit by the Ag. Defence Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu and members of the military high command.
