Ghana Armed Forces recruits pass out

A retired Army officer has advised recruit soldiers to eschew behaviours which tend to tarnish the image of the military.

Wing Commander Francis William Quayson (retd), who gave the advice at the passing out parade of the Ghana Air Force Recruits Course 1/2015, called on the military hierarchy to deal with soldiers who were found involving themselves in acts that affected the image of the military.

Such activities, he said, included unsolicited policing duties engagement in, chieftaincy disputes and family feuds.

In all, 289 recruits passed out after six months’ military training at the Air Force Recruits Training School (AFRTS).

They were inducted into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) after they had sworn the oath of allegiance.

Best recruits

Four recruits — Donkor Joseph, Teye-Kau Evans Lawerh, Opoku Alex and Iye Joana Annaamine — were adjudged the best in Tactics, Field Craft, Weapon Training and Academics, respectively.

Wing Commander Quayson said the GAF was a neutral body constitutionally mandated to defend the Constitution of Ghana and not the interest of any section or group of individuals.

“You are, therefore, to remain neutral in all your dealings with the public, since your loyalty is to the good people of Ghana,” he said.

He further urged the recruits to live exemplary lives, as they would be held accountable for any acts of misconduct.
