Ghana National Fire Service apologises for PR Team’s comments on Kumasi fire incident

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has issued a formal apology to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, following comments made by a member of its Public Relations Team, AD01 Alex King Nartey, concerning the recent fire outbreak in Adum, Kumasi.

In a statement released on Tuesday, March 25, and signed by Acting Chief Fire Officer Daniella M Ntow Sapong, the GNFS described the remarks as "uncomplimentary" and expressed sincere regret for the incident. The service extended an "unreserved and sincere" apology to both the Minister and the Chief of REGSEC in the Ashanti Region.

"I refer to the uncomplimentary comments and remarks by a member of the Public Relations Team of the Service in the person of ADOI Alex King Nartey on recent Fire Outbreak at Adum in the Kumasi Metropolis."

"On behalf of myself and the entire Ghana National Fire Service, we unreservedly extend our profound and sincerest regret for any unfortunate comment made against your good self and reputable office as the Regional Minister and Chair of REGSEC (Ashanti Region)," the statement read.

The statement also recognized the efforts of regional authorities in managing the fire outbreak and reaffirmed the GNFS’s commitment to fire prevention and effective response.

Additionally, it assured that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against the officer responsible to prevent similar incidents in the future.

"We appreciate your contribution, sacrifices and untiring efforts that contributed to the Operational Response and Management of this unfortunate Fire Incident."

"Kindly accept this apology and be informed of our profound and invaluable support towards the reduction of Fire Outbreaks in the Ashanti Region," it added.
