7 Assailants, 3 passengers killed in Binduri bus attack

A bus carrying 140 passengers from Bawku to Bolgatanga, both in the Upper East Region, has been attacked by armed assailants, resulting in the death of three of the passengers.

A military escort protecting the bus successfully repulsed the attack on the convoy, resulting in the death of seven of the assailants.

The incident, according to a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), happened yesterday morning at Binduri, about 14.4 kilometres from Bawku, where the unknown armed men shot several times at the bus, resulting in the death of three civilians and injuring one.

A statement signed by the acting Director-General of Public Relations, Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, said the military pursued the assailants and discovered an escapee who went to a mosque.

It said the military retrieved from the escapee a G3 automatic rifle, two filled magazines of 20 rounds each and 176 rounds of additional ammunition.

The statement said 10 other suspects have been arrested and are assisting with investigations.

“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to caution all to desist from engaging the military or any other security service during its operations,” the statement cautioned.
GAF extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The attack adds to growing security concerns in parts of the Upper East Region, particularly along the Bawku-Bolgatanga corridor, where tensions have persisted in recent times.
