795 More protection assistants complete police training
Another batch of 795 Community Protection Assistants (CPAs) selected from the Volta, Eastern and Oti regions have passed out at the Ho Police Training School.
This brings to 1,749 the total number of CPAs who have passed out of the school this month.
The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, who reviewed the passing out parade last Tuesday said the training of CPAs, which was a collaboration between the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the Ghana Police Service, bore ample testimony of the government’s commitment to empower the youth.
“These deliberate initiatives, including the expansion of the YEA modules, the Youth in Agribusiness Programme, and the establishment of the National Apprenticeship Programme are, providing thousands of young Ghanaians with meaningful employment and hope for the future,” he added.
The Regional Minister urged the CPAs to carry out their duties with humility and professionalism to earn the trust of the communities they were assigned to protect.
Mr Gunu further entreated them to demonstrate the spirit of discipline, integrity and service to humanity which was imparted in them during their training, as they performed their roles at their duty posts.
Exit arrangement
The Deputy CEO of YEA, in-charge of Finance and Administration, Sedinam Kekeshie, conceded that one of the challenges facing CPAs was the exit arrangement after their two-year community service.
However, she gave an assurance that the YEA was in the process of working out the necessary modalities for them to be retained by the Ghana Police Service.
“A comprehensive exit arrangement is being developed together with the Ghana Police Service to absorb some of these recruits into the mainstream,” the YEA Deputy Director added.
The Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Akorli, charged the CPAs to make positive impact on the communities and build trust between the police and the public.
The CPAs were taken through a three-week course in police ethics, community policing, crime management and customer care, intelligence gathering, criminal law, traffic management, and practical police duties.
