8 Woodworkers perish in road accident at Mim

Eight workers of the Infix Wood Processing Company at Mim in the Ahafo Region have been confirmed dead following an accident on the Goaso-Mim road.

Five of the victims died on the spot, while the three others died while on admission at the Goaso Government Hospital where they were rushed to for medical attention.

The accident was a head-on collision that involved the company's bus with registration number AC 775-24 and a timber truck with registration number GR 9640-A on Friday at about 6:15 a.m.

The Yuton bus was transporting the workers of the plywood-producing company to the workplace.

The timber truck, on the other hand, was carrying three big logs when the accident occurred at Ohianimguase, a farming community on a section of the road.

The bus was travelling from Mim, while the tipper truck was heading towards Goaso when the accident occurred.

In all, 40 persons were involved in the accident, of which eight persons lost their lives, while the remaining 32 sustained varying degrees of injury.

Rescue

The Public Relations Office (PRO) of the Ahafo Regional GNFS, Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO Grade I), George Adawu, told the Daily Graphic that the service rescued the 32 victims with severe injuries.

He explained that the victims were put in an ambulance with the help of the police to the hospital. ADOI Adawu said officers of the Goaso Municipal Fire Station responded to the accident and followed up to the hospital.

He added that the rescue team returned from the hospital and confirmed that five victims died on the spot, while three others died at the hospital with the others sustaining injuries.

ADOI Adawu said some of the victims had been treated and discharged. The bodies of the deceased have been kept at the hospital’s mortuary for preservation.
