Accra to host maiden WAGER awards
West Africa will take a bold step towards a sustainable future with the launch of the West Africa Green Economy Roundtable and Awards (WAGER) 2025, scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
The high-level event aims to catalyse actionable dialogue, policy formulation, and recognition of excellence in green economic transformation across the region.
To be held on the theme: “Advancing Sustainable Development through Green Growth in West Africa,” it will be organised by Pent Media Centre (Ghana) and African Consolidated Analytical Limited (Nigeria), in collaboration with other major media houses in Ghana and Nigeria.
Stakeholders, awards
A statement issued in Accra said WAGER 2025 would bring together key stakeholders, including policymakers, financiers, business leaders, academics, and civil society, to explore innovative strategies that combine environmental sustainability with economic growth.
“The Roundtable will conclude with a prestigious awards ceremony to honour outstanding contributions to the green economy,” it said.
The statement said WAGER would recognise individuals, institutions and projects that drive impactful change in renewable energy, sustainable finance, waste management, climate resilience and eco-innovation sectors.
Categories
With over 25 award categories, the WAGER Awards aim to inspire leadership and promote regional excellence. Award categories include: Renewable Energy Leader Award, Sustainable Business Leader of the Year, Circular Economy Champion Award, Sustainable Agriculture Award, Green Technology & Innovation Company of the Year, Sustainable Urban Development Company of the Year, Climate Action Leadership Award among others.
“Nominees are evaluated by an independent panel of industry experts based on innovation, measurable impact, community engagement and alignment with global sustainability standards,” it said.
It states that West Africa is at a crucial point where economic progress must be balanced with environmental responsibility, and WAGER 2025 offers a unique platform for dialogue, recognition, and collaboration to support the shift towards a green economy aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the African continent.
