Akatsi North MP supports students

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi North, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, has pledged to commit greater zeal and more funds towards human resources development in the constituency.

Pursuant to that, priority attention will be given to supporting tertiary education students from the area to pay their fees and study smoothly, he added.

Mr Nortsu-Kotoe said this when he presented cheques for a total of GHS 400,000 to 95 tertiary students to settle their fees at a ceremony at Ave-Dakpa last Sunday.

The beneficiaries are from the various universities, Colleges of Education and Nurses’ Training Colleges.

Returns

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Nortsu-Kotoe said the move definitely has guaranteed returns, especially in the area of education.

He said 70 per cent of his Common Fund was earmarked for the payment of school fees alone.

Mr Nortsu-Kotoe entreated the student beneficiaries to study diligently to justify the support and help to build a strong and needed human resource foundation for the constituency.

“The funds being given out could have been used for roads, boreholes, school buildings and other infrastructure, but education was prioritised because laying a strong education foundation is key to transforming this district into a greater and more developed area,” he added.

The expected return from the investment, the MP said, was that the beneficiaries would come back to the constituency to support communities and uplift families.

One of the beneficiaries, a student of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Erica Pokua Yeboah, described the gesture as a huge relief and overwhelming.
