Alan, 2 others file to contest 2024 elections
The leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, filed his nomination yesterday to contest the 2024 presidential election as an independent candidate.
The bold attempt by the veteran politician is a frantic bid to break the NPP and NDC dominance by introducing a new chapter into the nation’s politics.

Mr Kyerematen filed his nomination alongside two other presidential aspirants, bringing the total number so far to 11, out of an expected 32.
The two others were Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Kofi Koranteng, an independent candidate.
Mr Kyerematen’s forms were received by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Adukwei Mensah, while that of Alhaji Frimpong and Mr Koranteng were received by the Deputy Chairperson in charge of operations of the commission, Samuel Tettey.
While spelling out what qualified one to contest for the office of President, Ms Mensah assured them that the process would be transparent and fair.
She, however, insisted that the process would be swift, and the outcome communicated to the nominee.
Responses
In his response, Mr Kyerematen commended the EC for the good work done so far against the backdrop of the enormity of the task confronting the commission.

"The women of Ghana have the capacity to occupy the highest office of the country.
"I thank Ghanaians for the show of love," he said.
Alan, who came with the largest contingent on the day, said “Ghanaians are looking for a President that will fight for the interest of Ghana; a President that will promote national unity; a President of the people and by the people.”
He promised to ensure behavioural and mindset changes, which, he said, he was fit for.

Describing himself as a transitional leader and someone who could give the youth an opportunity to serve, Mr Kyerematen introduced a young lawyer, Kwame Owusu Danso, as his running mate.
For the Ghanaian youth, Mr Kyerematen said his presence on the 2024 ballot symbolised much more than just another presidential candidate - it represents the possibility of real, lasting change.
He said his Great Transformational Plan (GTP), crafted with young Ghanaians at its heart, would offer a fresh approach to tackling the country's challenges of unemployment, entrepreneurship and economic development.

In a brief comment, Alhaji Frimpong said the NDP would ensure that Ghana remained cohesive, peaceful and stable.
He said the party would roll out its policies when given the chance to contest.

"When voted into power we will be the party that will put Ghana on the path of stability, wellbeing and assurance for livelihoods,” he said.
Koranteng
For his part, Mr Koranteng prayed that the vetting process would be fair and transparent. "Ghana needs us and when we are successful, we will not disappoint," he said.
He said the party had travelled across the country and that the level of desperation was dire. Mr Koranteng said he remained the best alternative to revive a failed system.
He, therefore, called on the media to tell the story of what was really happening in Ghana because the level of poverty and suffering was heartbreaking.
