The donation was made possible through the benevolence of parents and members of the church and upon a request made to the church by the orphanage for support to provide for the children who for one reason or the other have been denied their rightful place in society.

The items worth GH¢5,500 include five bags of 25 of rice, four litres of cooking oil, eight gallons of liquid soap, a carton of washing soap, five bars of key soap and a half carton of bathing soap.

The rest are used clothing and shoes, crates of eggs, five boxes of biscuits, 20 packs of soft drinks, 30 sachets of water, two boxes of tomato, nine paste toilet rolls and GH₵500.

Presenting the items, Senior Teacher of the Community 11 District of the Apostolic Church, Vasti Somahle-Adano, noted that the teachers through the Presbytery thought it wise to extend their love and support to the less-privileged children in the Tema Metropolis.

“As children and heirs of the throne of Christ, we ought to ensure that our brothers and sisters who are less privileged enjoy what we are enjoying now,” she added.

Home for the vulnerable

A Senior Home Mother at the Save Them Young Orphanage, Doris Abankwa, who received the items, said the institution was established to provide, shelter, food and clothing with the education and healthcare needs of the children as paramount.

She said due to the love and affection she had for the children, most of them were unwilling to leave the home when their due date was up.

She further noted that due to her diligence and love for less privileged children, she had been able to establish homes for widows and widowers in other regions and care for them.

Madam Abankwa appealed to institutions and organisations to come to the aid of the home by supporting management in the payment of fees for most of the children who attended both private and public schools in Tema and its surrounding communities.

She thanked the Presbytery Sunday School teachers and parents of the Apostolic Church, Ghana, Community 11 District, Royal Assembly for the thought of sharing and supporting them with so many items which, she promised, would be put to good use in caring for the children.

She appealed for more such support as the children appreciated such gestures from people in society, especially children.
