BH-Fertagro donates fertilisers, items to Nsawam Prisons
A leading supplier of fertilisers in the country, BH-Fertagro, has donated fertilisers and toiletries worth over GH¢70,000 to the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons in the Eastern Region.
The 150 bags of the NPK fertilisers are meant for the prison to use on its current 47-acre farm project
The Assistant Director of the Nsawam Prisons, Andrews Osei, who received the items on behalf of the Commander of the Prisons, lauded BH-Fertagro for the gesture which he said would go a long way in supporting the Prison Service agriculture programme to support the government in feeding inmates.
He expressed satisfaction with the timing of the donation as the prison service was about to embark on another farming project and called on other organisations to support the prison service in its various initiatives.
“We are grateful for this donation and we use this opportunity to encourage other organisations to support us in our numerous programmes such as agriculture and provision of technical and other skills for inmates,’ he said.

The Managing Director of BH-Fertagro Limited, Robert Ayittey, said the donation formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility which seeks to support the growth of agriculture in the country.
He expressed joy at supporting the Prisons Service, which he said, had a very important mandate of taking care and reforming prisoners.
According to him, it was encouraging that the Service was engaged in various agricultural activities to augment what it got from the government.
“We should all be interested in supporting agriculture. It is the backbone of this country, which plays a crucial role in the economic development of the country,” he said.
For his part, the General Manager of the company, Alex Kwame Donyinah, said BH-Fertagro was committed to giving back to society and extending support to institutions such as the Prisons Service.
According to him, during the Akosombo spillage disaster, the company donated over GHC 100,000 worth of relief items to the people of Mepe, Bator, Sogakope and its environs.
“We are hopeful that the fertiliser will help them increase their yield and expand their cultivation to be able to have enough food to feed the inmates and alleviate the challenges that they have in managing them’. He added.
