Bishop Alleyne AME Zion marks 50 years of God’s faithfulness

The Bishop Alleyne Society of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church has marked its 50th anniversary with a thanksgiving service.

The service, grounded in God’s enduring faithfulness, commemorated the founding of the society on October 27, 1974.

Clad in specially designed anniversary attire, the congregation sang, danced in praise and offered prayers of gratitude for the lord’s guidance and the steady growth of the church over the past five decades.

During the service, many members who had made significant contributions to the growth and development of the church were recognised for their service.

Golden jubilee

The Pastor-in-Charge, Rev. Dr Isaac Ato Kwamena Mensah, described the golden jubilee as a testament to God’s enduring grace, the dedication of countless leaders and members, and the unbreakable bond that unites them in Christ.

“Fifty years of faithful service, fervent worship, and steadfast fellowship are no small accomplishments,” he said.

Rev. Dr Mensah thanked God for the blessings that have sustained the church, saying, “As we gather to commemorate this golden jubilee, let us give thanks to the Almighty for the many blessings.

“He has poured upon us blessings of love that bind us together, unity that strengthens our mission, wealth that enables us to serve the wider community, health that sustains our bodies, and the gift of long life that allows us to witness his wonders generation after generation,” Rev. Dr Mensah added.

He expressed the hope that the anniversary would usher in renewed strength and divine favour for both members and the church and commended the society for their prayers, sacrifices and joyful participation in its activities.

The Episcopal Secretary of the West West Africa Episcopal District (WWAED) of the AME Zion Church, David Zungbey, in a sermon, urged senior members to recount the history of the church so that the younger generation could appreciate the sacrifices that had been made.

“Each of us who calls ourselves a member must know where we came from and where God has brought us,” he said and explained that every journey had both high points and difficult moments; hence, recounting the story would allow younger members to ask questions and gain understanding.

Mr Zungbey said, “When your children ask you what those stones mean, you must tell them where the Lord brought you from,” he said while quoting from scripture to illustrate the importance of preserving memory.

Achievements

The Chairperson of the anniversary planning committee, Antonia Effum, said the golden jubilee was both a time of celebration and a period of preparation for the future.

She explained that the committee had spearheaded several projects aimed at strengthening the church’s infrastructure and ministry.

These included repainting the chapel, refurbishing the pews, installing a symbolic cross, upgrading audiovisual systems, constructing a finance office and boardroom, and paving the road leading to the church.

“Each of these projects represents tangible expressions of our commitment to honouring God’s house and preparing it for the next 50 years,” Ms Effum said.
