Boundary Commission rehabilitates Leklebi Kame Health Centre

The Ghana Boundary Commission (GBC) has rehabilitated and expanded the Leklebi Kame Health Centre in the Volta Region to meet the health needs of the people in the area and its adjoining border communities.

The centre underwent significant improvements, including the installation of equipment and the construction of a mechanised borehole, to serve as a water source for the facility.

The commission also replaced the roof of the building, upgraded the infrastructure, including additional furniture, and provided sanitation facilities, all at about $89,000.

The support comes under the Cross Border Support Programme of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS), which seeks to mitigate and prevent public health threats within border communities.

A durbar was held last Thursday (August 8) to inaugurate the facility and hand it over to the community.

Symbol of hope

A Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, said the achievement was a testament to the power of regional cooperation and the commitment of ECOWAS to the well-being of member states' citizens.

He expressed the belief that health was a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of sustainable development, adding that a healthy population was essential for the social, economic, and political stability of any nation.

Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong said the newly renovated facility was a symbol of hope, resilience, and the promise of a healthier future for the community.

“The renovation of this health facility will greatly enhance our capacity to provide essential health services, particularly to the most vulnerable members of our community. It will enable us to offer improved maternal and child health care, better disease prevention and control, and more effective treatment for illnesses,” he said.

“This, in turn, will lead to a healthier, more productive population, capable of contributing positively to our nation's growth and development,” the deputy minister added.

Commendation

The Paramount Chief of Leklebi Kame, Togbe Atatsi V, commended the GBC and the ECOWAS Commission for the support, stating that it would go a long way to ensure improved healthcare delivery in the area.

“I’m very sure that those of us who know the modest beginnings of this health centre will marvel and be in awe today by the great transformation that has taken place here,” he said.

“For this, we the chiefs and people of Leklebi Kame and Kudzra, indeed the entire Leklebi, will forever remain grateful,” Togbe Atatsi said.

While pledging a high maintenance culture over the facility, the Paramount Chief called for a Physician Assistant to be stationed at the centre for effective service delivery.
