Boy, 16, shot dead at Amasu galamsey site

The Bono Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged shooting of 16-year-old Issahaku Ansu at an illegal mining site at Amasu, a farming community in the Dormaa East District.

The incident occurred on Sunday, August 31, 2025, when the victim was shot by an unknown assailant  while he was engaged in galamsey activities.

This was contained in a press statement issued on Tuesday, signed by the Bono Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah.

Investigations

"Investigations suggested that the victim was shot from a nearby bush while engaged in illegal mining activities, causing others at the site to flee," the statement said.

It added that upon receiving the information, the police rushed to the scene where the body was found with multiple gunshot wounds at the back, with blood oozing from the nostrils.

It said the victim was wearing a wine-coloured pair of boxer shorts soaked with blood, which the police had retained as an exhibit.

Remains

The statement further said that the body had since been conveyed to the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital morgue for autopsy.

It further assured the public, particularly residents of Amasu and surrounding communities, that every effort would be made to apprehend the perpetrator(s) of the heinous crime.
