Chamber Business Awards pushes for strategic partnership to boost economy

The fifth edition of the Chamber Business Awards will be used as a platform to push for a revitalised national development agenda through strategic public-private collaboration.

With economic potential remaining underutilised due to structural bottlenecks in local production, the proposed collaboration must help reduce production costs, incentivise key industries and support scalable enterprises.

Speaking at the launch of the Chamber Business Awards in Accra, the President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), Stephane Miezan, said it was time to transition from promise to performance through a results-driven partnership between the government and private sector.

“We must embrace an industrial transformation that positions Ghana as a manufacturing hub within the ECOWAS and AfCFTA frameworks, while expanding our reach beyond the continent,” he said.

The awards

The Chamber Business Awards is an initiative of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry to celebrate Ghanaian businesses that have excelled, adapted and led in times of challenge.

It is expected to be held on the theme: “Revitalising Ghana’s Development Agenda through Strategic Public-Private Collaboration”.

It is to offer a platform to reflect on the broader ecosystem that supports business growth across the country.

Notable improvements

The president stated that in recent months, the country has recorded some notable improvements in macroeconomic performance.

He said indicators such as inflation, the exchange rate, the bank reference rate and reserve holdings have shown promising signs of recovery.

“These developments, though commendable, must be viewed in the broader context of global economic uncertainty. With slower global growth and shifts in international policy, particularly in the United States, our ability to remain resilient will depend on how we position ourselves locally.

“This is why we believe now is the time to revitalise Ghana’s development agenda, with strategic collaboration between the public and private sectors at its foundation,” he said.

He said the private sector was eager and prepared to work with the government to boost production, reduce imports and expand Ghana’s exports.

“For this to happen effectively, there must be deeper engagement, shared goals and mutual commitment between policymakers and the business community,” he added.

Pivotal role

The Chairman of the Planning Committee, Prince Ackuaku, said the chamber recognised that beyond profits and balance sheets, businesses play a pivotal role in nation-building.

“They create jobs, develop human capital, drive innovation and support social development.

These awards are, therefore, not just about celebration; they are about setting benchmarks, encouraging competitiveness, and inspiring partnerships that uplift our collective destiny,” he said.

He said the fifth edition of the awards would focus on honouring businesses and institutions that have demonstrated not only profitability but purpose — those that have innovated in tough times, those that have collaborated with government or civil society for impact and those that have kept faith with Ghana.

“We hope this year’s programme catalyses new thinking in the way the private and public sectors engage.

Through these awards, we are advocating joint infrastructure projects, policy co-creation between regulators and industry players, support for small businesses through shared financing models and skills development and digitisation partnerships to increase access to government services and economic data,” he added.

Celebrations

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the chamber, Mark Badu-Aboagye, said President John Dramani Mahama would be the guest of honour at the awards scheduled for November 8, 2025.

He said the award sought to celebrate businesses and personalities contributing to Ghana’s business practice.

He added that it would inspire entrepreneurial spirit by highlighting success stories.
