Accra City Hotel embarks on transformation journey

The Accra City Hotel has unveiled its new logo and launched a living art gallery at the hotel.

The new logo and art gallery, which formed part of a transformation journey the hotel is embarking on, were a testament to the hotel’s commitment to innovation, respect for its local heritage, and its vision to offer guests an unforgettable and culturally enriching experience.

The new logo, a sleek and contemporary design, subtly incorporates traditional Ga symbols in its secondary branding, representing the hotel's deep connection to its local roots while projecting a modern and forward-thinking image.

This visual refresh signalled a renewed commitment to celebrate and share the unique cultural tapestry of Accra with both local and international guests.

The General Manager of the hotel, Divine Matey, said in line with that transformation journey, the hotel’s public spaces, from its elegant lobby to its inviting lounges and corridors, would be transformed into a dynamic gallery showcasing a diverse range of art forms.

These would include paintings, sculptures, textiles, photography, and meticulously preserved artifacts, each telling a compelling story about Accra's past and the traditions of the Ga people.

“The carefully selected collection will offer a chronological journey through Accra's development, from its early settlements and colonial influences to its emergence as a dynamic modern capital. Guests will encounter visual narratives of significant historical events, prominent figures who shaped the city, and the evolution of its unique architectural landscape,” he explained.

Transformation

Mr Matey said central to the transformation journey was the celebration of the Ga people, their rich traditions, customs, and symbolic language adding that the gallery would feature artworks that explored the significance of Ga chieftaincy, the vibrant Ga musical traditions, the intricate artistry of Ga textiles and beadwork, and the profound meanings embedded in traditional Ga proverbs and symbols.

He said with the transformation, the hotel aimed to become more than just a place to stay but that they aspire to be a gateway for their guests to truly experience the soul of Accra.

Mr Matey said to further enhance the experience, Accra City Hotel would offer guided tours of the gallery led by knowledgeable art curators and cultural experts.

These tours, he explained would provide deeper insights into the historical context and cultural significance of the displayed pieces, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation for Accra's heritage.

He said the hotel also planned to host regular cultural events, including talks by historians and artists, traditional Ga music and dance performances, and workshops on Ga crafts.

“This transformation positions Accra City Hotel as a unique destination for culturally conscious travelers seeking an authentic and enriching experience beyond the typical hotel stay.

By seamlessly integrating art, history, and hospitality, the hotel aims to become a vital cultural hub within the city, contributing to the preservation and promotion of Accra's rich heritage,” he said.

He said the transformative initiative had been met with enthusiasm from local cultural institutions and the Ga community including the Paramount Chief of Abola Traditional Area and Chief Advisor to the Ga Mantse, Ni Ahene Nunoo III, who commended the efforts of the hotel not only to preserve but also share the history and culture of the Ga people with the world.
