Cross Passion Church launches youth empowerment programme

The Accra City Church branch of Cross Passion International (CPI) has launched the maiden edition of its flagship youth development and empowerment programme at the University of Ghana, Legon.

The groundbreaking event, dubbed: Wisdom For Emerging Leaders (WISEL), took place last Sunday and attracted a wide range of students and youth from diverse backgrounds.

At a time when Ghana is undergoing a massive transformation, this all-important initiative was launched to offer the Ghanaian youth a chance at developing themselves by acquiring the requisite skill and character set that will enable them to position themselves, professionally and morally, in order to chart a new course towards Ghana's next leadership evolution.

Leadership

The convener of the one-day conference, Rev. Festus Agyei Sarfo, founder of CPI, in partnership with various students and representatives of universities in Ghana, rolled out this timely intervention to help reform and train the next generation of national leaders.

Speaking at the conference, the convener expressed his deep concern about the country's serious character and moral deficit that directly impacted our collective effort to build a prosperous and thriving economy, robbing it of the capacity to compete globally among other advanced and emerging nations and economies.

“Leadership is everything, and the rise and fall of any nation is dependent on its skilled leadership assets.

Equally so, the character of true leadership is the bedrock on which leadership endeavours are both built and preserved.

“The strength of a nation, in many respects, is founded on the strength of the character of its leadership class,” he said.

Discipline

Rev Sarfo also addressed the issue of lack of personal discipline among emerging leaders, the lost virtue of self-control and disturbingly low levels of emotional intelligence, among others.

He took time to expound on the need to refrain from unwholesome sexual habits and certain compromises that had the power to derail the potential and progress of emerging leaders.

He said, “if a nation's leadership class is untrained, unskilled and indisciplined, the potential and destiny of its people would be stuck in a quagmire of underdevelopment for a terribly long time.”

The successful launch of the exciting and fun-packed conference was well-attended by representatives from four major universities, and was climaxed with a Q&A session, and a time of networking among the participants.
