Court issues bench warrant against businesswoman

The Adabraka District Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a self-styled businesswoman suspected of defrauding multiple victims under various false pretexts in the capital, Accra.

The Court, presided over by Abena Asoh Owusu-Omenyo, issued the bench warrant after several attempts by the prosecution to arrest Nana Ama Nwurueze and arraign her in court proved futile.

“You are hereby commanded in the name of the Republic forthwith to apprehend the said Nana Ama Nwurueze and produce her before the court at Adabraka,” the bench warrant issued for her arrest said.

Criminal code

It was issued in line with Section 73 of the Criminal Procedure Code, Act 1960 (ACT 30).

Before the bench warrant was issued, the prosecution led by Detective Inspector Genevieve, informed the court that contrary to excuses that the accused person had a medical appointment for surgery, police investigations proved otherwise.

She further told the court that intel gathered by police investigators had revealed that the accused person intended to travel outside.

As a result, she prayed the court to issue a beach warrant to cause the arrest of the accused person if she showed up at the airport.

The accused is currently on the run with police intensifying efforts to apprehend Nwurueze, who was alst seen at Dzorwulu and bring her to face the law.

Meanwhile the bench warrant for her arrest has since been gazetted.
