A visionary non-profit institution dedicated to empowering storytellers, Dikan Centre, is set to launch its inaugural HerPress Summit at the Mix Design Hub in Accra on Saturday.
The event is designed to spotlight the significance of women leaders and amplify the voices of female journalists across the country.
It is also aimed at sharpening storytelling skills, expanding mentorship opportunities and promoting gender equity in newsrooms.
The Summit, an extension of the highly impactful HerPress Fellowship initiated by the Dikan Centre, will bring together women journalists, editors and media professionals from across the country.
Activities
The HerPress Summit will feature a rich line-up of speakers and thought leaders, including Bernice Owen-Jones, Australian High Commissioner to Ghana; Genevieve Partington, Country Director of Amnesty International; Samson Lardy Anyenini, Legal and Media Practitioner; and Emma Morrison, a renowned Media Personality.
The Founder of Dikan Centre, Paul Ninson, explained that the Summit was inspired by a personal experience and a strong desire to see women journalists thrive in a challenging industry.
He expressed the centre's belief in the power of visual education to ignite transformation across the African continent.
“Through our dynamic education programmes, vibrant community-building initiatives, captivating exhibitions, innovative laboratories and engaging public programmes, we create a nurturing space for the art of storytelling.”
“By harnessing the strength of visual education, we unlock the full potential of African learners, fostering their creativity, critical thinking, entrepreneurship and problem-solving skills—essential attributes for thriving in the 21st century,” he said.
