The President of the GhIE, Kwabena Bempong, explained that the engagement was critical to the development of Ghana by helping shape the manifestos of the various parties as they begin their campaigns for the 2024 general election.

“The Ghana Institution of Engineering Manifesto Series aims to outline and advocate for strategic interventions in key sectors affecting the socio-economic development of Ghana and to provide informed and practical recommendations to shape the development of political parties’ manifestos with a focus on critical sectors that influence the socio-economic development of the country,” he said

He added that it would influence policy formulation and sectorial reforms by providing evidence-based recommendations and ensuring that policies were grounded in technical feasibility.

“It will promote sustainable development: this is to advocate for policies that balance economic growth with environmental stewardship and social equity, aligning with global sustainable development goals,” Mr Bempong added.

He emphasised that the engagement would enhance public discourse and stimulate informed discussions among policymakers, stakeholders and the public on critical issues affecting the nation, fostering a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

The President of the GhIE said it would also empower political parties and equip them with the knowledge and tools needed to develop comprehensive and actionable manifestos that addressed the real needs of the population.

Role of engineers

Speaking at the sidelines of the programme, the Executive Director of GhIE, David Nyante, emphasised the significance of the role of engineering practitioners in establishing the country and shaping society.

“The abilities of Engineering Practitioners can advance our nation and enhance the lives of our citizens. It is against this background that this Manifesto Series is very important and necessary to political parties in formulating their programmes and plans towards the 2024 general election,” Mr Nyante said.

The representatives of the political parties expressed their gratitude to GhIE for coming out with a 100-page document that spelt out important sectors of society to guide them in their manifesto preparations.
