GIMPA Law Students Association holds Peace Forum for Election 2024

Oil marketing company, JP Trustees, and Good Causes Foundation of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), have supported the maiden GIMPA Law School Pledge, dubbed ‘Peace through Democracy’ towards election 2024.

The event which was hosted by the GIMPA Law Students Association in collaboration with the GIMPA Law School, was to promote peace, unity, and constitutional responsibility towards the December 7, 2024 polls.

Addressing dignitaries and students at the forum, Desmond Israel who represented the Dean of GIMPA Law School, Dr Kwaku Agyeman-Budu, explained that law students bore a responsibility which extended beyond academic pursuits.

He indicated that law students’ responsibility also encompassed shaping society rooted in law, order, and mutual respect, and described the forum as ‘timely’.

He emphasised that the peace pledge initiative by the students, reflected responsibility and dedication to fostering a culture of peace in the country

Mr Israel explained that the initiative was more than a campaign as it was a testament to the power of collective action.

The General Secretary of GIMPA Law Students Association and Convenor of the event, Celestine Addo, said the forum was to ignite a collective pledge to uphold the values of democracy and to foster a culture of non-violence, respect, and fairness through the election season.

She indicated that the ‘Peace through Democracy’ project was not a mere initiative, but a call to action by all stakeholders.

“The GIMPA Law School and its students highly appreciate JP Trustees Limited and the NLA for supporting the peace forum, and setting the tone for what would resonate across the country - a steadfast commitment to fair, transparent, and peaceful elections,” she added.

The Managing Director of JP Trustees, Joshua Larbi, said the company was proud to lend its support to the peace campaign, an initiative meant to remind Ghanaians of the shared responsibility towards a peaceful elections.
