GIRSAL has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Ghana’s agricultural sector with a GH¢50,000 donation towards the 41st National Farmers Day celebration held last Friday, December 5, 2025.
The Chief Executive Officer of GIRSAL, Nicholas Afrifa, presented the cheque to the Food and Agriculture Minister Eric Opoku.
Rationale
Speaking after the presentation, Mr Afrifa highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in strengthening Ghana’s agricultural value chain.
“GIRSAL’s mandate goes beyond providing credit guarantees. We work closely with financial institutions, agribusinesses, government agencies and value chain actors to ensure sustainable growth in the sector”, he explained.
“This donation is our way of supporting the ministry as it honours Ghana’s hardworking farmers.
We are confident that the donation will help procure 250 knapsack sprayers to reward deserving farmers,” he noted.
He further emphasised GIRSAL’s commitment to improving agricultural financing, promoting innovation, and supporting initiatives that enhanced productivity and resilience across the sector.
Response
Responding, Mr Opoku expressed appreciation to GIRSAL for its continued partnership and support.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, I extend our sincere gratitude to GIRSAL for its generous contribution,” the minister said.
Mr Opoku gave an assurance that the support would directly benefit the farmers, who remained at the heart of Ghana’s food security.
“Rest assured, the donation will go into rewarding the farmers to encourage and impact food production for the benefit of the nation,” he said.
The 2025 National Farmers Day celebration, held in Ho, recognised outstanding farmers for their invaluable contributions to Ghana.
GIRSAL’s support forms part of its broader mission to de-risk agricultural financing, strengthen value chains, and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s food systems transformation.
