The Executive Secretary of the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA), Ato Classpeters, has said the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is pushing developers to think about smart cities and technology-driven housing solutions.
He explained that with AI gradually shaping lifestyles globally, the real estate sector in Ghana must not be left behind, especially as modern housing increasingly depends on technology for efficiency, comfort and sustainability.
“In the world of AI now, our members are looking at building smart cities. And when you talk of smart cities, it is technology-based.
“AI is changing the way people interact with their homes, from energy management to security and communication systems.
As developers, we must begin to incorporate these innovations into our projects if we want to build cities that are truly smart and future-ready,” he told the Daily Graphic.
Mr Classpeters made the point ahead of the Daily Graphic/GREDA housing fair, known as The Home Fair, scheduled for Thursday, August 28, to Saturday, August 30, this year at the Accra Mall Food Court.
It will be held on the theme: “Technology-Enabled and Eco-Friendly Housing: Now and the Future.”
The Daily Graphic/GREDA Home Fair will bring together key stakeholders, including developers, banks, input suppliers and investors to showcase solutions and housing units in various parts of the country for the patronage of prospective buyers.
Over the years, the fair has provided a platform for developers and allied industries to share ideas and chart strategies for housing delivery.
This year’s focus will reflect the need for Ghana’s housing sector to embrace AI and sustainability as part of future development.
Challenge
The Executive Secretary of GREDA said the association welcomed the emphasis on smart and eco-friendly housing, describing it as timely and appropriate for Ghana’s future.
However, Mr Classpeters added that the industry’s major challenge remained the rising cost of building materials, which undermined the government’s efforts at providing affordable housing.
“Our major concern is the increasing cost of building materials, which goes against the mission of government in providing affordable housing.
“We believe that with strong partnerships with government, something must be done to ease the burden on developers and ultimately make housing accessible to more Ghanaians,” he said.
Exhibitors expected at the fair include Lakeside Estate, Star Properties, African Concrete Products, Regimanuel Gray Limited, Prabon Greenfield, State Housing Company, Salem Investment Limited, JL Properties, Affordable Luxury Homes and Rocksters Roofing Systems.
Headline sponsors, MTN and Samsung, will also showcase cutting-edge solutions for homes and beyond.
MTN will present smart home security and connectivity systems, while Samsung will highlight its latest technology for modern living.
