Imperial Gen. Assurance boosts fight against COVID-19

Imperial General Assurance has supported two basic schools in the Greater Accra Region with COVID-19 preventive items to enhance their fight against the pandemic.

The schools, St Peter’s Anglican Cluster of Schools and the Rashad Islamic School located at Ofankor and Mallam Atta respectively, received 15,000 nose masks, 768 bottles of sanitisers, gallons of liquid soaps and hands-free Veronica buckets.

The donation formed part of the company’s effort to help protect lives and livelihoods against the pandemic which had killed 783 Ghanaians and infected 93,656 others as of May 19.

Presentation

The Managing Director of Imperial General Assurance, Mr Robert Wugah, who presented the items to the representatives of the schools, said containing the spread of the virus was a shared responsibility.

He said it was important that the government and all critical stakeholders continued to educate and sensitise Ghanaians to the dangers of the virus and the need to observe the necessary safety protocols to stem the spread as the country was not out of the woods yet.

Mr Wugah used the occasion to appeal to the students and Ghanaians in general to abide by the COVID-19 protocols by observing social distancing, wearing nose masks, washing hands under running water regularly, sanitising hands and avoiding crowded and poorly ventilated indoor spaces.

Team

The MD was accompanied by some members of the company’s management team, including the Head of Sales and Marketing, Mr Reginald Oklah, the Chief Finance Officer, Mr Abdel-Aziz Osman, and the Head of Audit, Mr Samuel Opoku Asiamah.

Construction

As part of the company’s CSR intervention, Imperial General Assurance also constructed a wall around the St Peter’s Anglican Basic “1” classroom block, which accommodates pupils in four classes.

The construction of the wall brought to a stop, the perennial flooding of the classrooms, particularly during the rainy season, which hitherto, disrupted teaching and learning, and also exposed pupils and teachers to health risks.

The company has also fixed the recurrent electricity supply challenges facing the Rashad Islamic School.

School authorities had said the erratic power supply had caused poor visibility conditions in the classrooms, a situation that negatively affected effective teaching and learning.

Commendation

The heads of the two schools thanked the company for its support and commitment towards the advancement of the cause of education.

They promised to judiciously put to use the donated items for the benefit of the pupils and the running of the schools.

Imperial General Assurance is a wholly owned Ghanaian insurance company which provides non-life insurance solutions in Ghana.
