Interior Ministry launches online digital services portal

The Ministry of the Interior has launched a comprehensive online digital services portal designed to modernise operations, enhance transparency and provide efficient, citizen-centered access to critical public services.

The platform, which would become fully operational on Monday, December 15, 2025, is aimed at transforming the way citizens interact with the ministry, reduce lengthy visits to offices and paper-based processes.

It will host a range of services, including applications for immigrant quota permits, renunciation of Ghanaian citizenship, dual nationality or citizenship, registration and naturalisation as a citizen of Ghana and registration of minors, among others.

The platform would also handle specialised services such as exportation of dead bodies It had also been fully digitalised to streamline documentation, ensure proper verification and eliminate delays.

Commitment

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, who launched the portal in Accra yesterday, said the initiative demonstrated the ministry’s unwavering commitment to leveraging technology to improve service delivery, enhance operational efficiency and strengthen citizen engagement across the Interior sector.

He said digitalisation had become a central pillar of national development, guided by key priorities such as expanding e-governance, strengthening cybersecurity, building a digitally skilled workforce and creating a seamless interface between citizens and the state.

Services

Alhaji Mohammed-Mubarak said for many years, the ministry had provided a wide range of critical services underpinning national security, public safety, migration management, business operations, and the protection of citizens’ rights.

He, however, said that those services had traditionally relied on manual, paper-based processes, which slowed delivery, created administrative bottlenecks and placed undue burdens on applicants.

The minister said the new portal would directly address those challenges by modernising its operations, strengthen data integrity and security and provide end-to-end digital access to the ministry’s most frequently used services.

“With this launch, we take a decisive step towards a more efficient, transparent and citizen-centered ministry, fully aligned with government’s commitment to building a forward-looking, technology-driven public sector,” he added.

The portal include security and regulatory services such as licensing of private security organisations, permission to import or export explosives, import or export arms and ammunition, import and license firearms, auctioneer licensing, and other key cutting permits.

System

The minister explained that the built-in tracking features would allow applicants to monitor progress, reduce uncertainty and limit human interference, thereby ensuring transparency and accountability.

He also said that integration with the National Identification Authority and other state databases ensures accurate verification and protection against identity fraud, thus, enhancing data security.

The minister further said that automated payments through secured digital platforms would improve IGF mobilisation and reduce leakages, contributing to improved revenue assurance.

He also stated that real-time data sharing and digital records would improve monitoring of explosives, arms, ammunition and private security operations, strengthening national security.
