Everybody calls him “Apostle”, not Reverend or Bishop or Minister or Venerable.
Only Apostle. Yet his calling, pedigree, and outreach in Christian ministry could have painstakingly earned him any of these titles.
Over the years, the respect and admiration that accompanied the title “Apostle” were spontaneously delivered, not solicited or self-acclaimed. It evolved naturally and unexpectedly, and was, therefore, authentic.
Dedication
In all the decades that Apostle Jude Hama has dedicated his life to the Lord and his mission, his desire has been far from the acquisition of titles but for soul-winning and disciple-making, so that the people of God would know him better and serve him well.
His goal has been similar to that of Apostle Paul, who said, “I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace” (Acts 20:24).
All this was probably similar to what happened in Antioch, where the disciples of Jesus were, for the first time, called “Christians” because they saw their behaviour as Christlike (Acts 11:26).
In the same vein, Christians in this country and elsewhere accorded Jude Hama the befitting title “Apostle” because they witnessed his apostolic zeal.
Consecration
Yet, at the right time and at the appropriate occasion, it became necessary to fulfil all righteousness in order to officially consecrate and affirm Jude Hama as “Apostle”, with full ordination credentials and honours.
The event took place at the ordination ceremony at the Covenant Family Community Church, Accra, on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in the presence of a cross-section of distinguished church leaders and people from various denominations.
The esteemed church leaders who consecrated and affirmed Jude Hama as “Apostle” included Rev. Dennis Osei-Manu (the General Overseer of the Covenant Family Community Church [CFCC] that hosted the programme) and the Very Rev. Cdr. F. Gbewonyo (former Moderator of Global Evangelical Church).
Other officiating ministers were Rev. Dr Emmanuel Ansah (Deputy General Overseer of the CFCC) and Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah (former chairman, Church of Pentecost).
Apostle Dr Eric K. Nyamekye (Chairman of the Church of Pentecost and Chairman of the Ghana Evangelism Committee) was represented. Also represented was the celebrated Rev. Gottfried Osei-Mensah (pioneer Executive Director of Lausanne Committee for World Evangelisation).
These leaders, representing the large number of Christian leaders at the function and worldwide, placed their hands on Jude Hama and consecrated and affirmed him as “an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God” (Ephesians 1:1), and as an ecumenical apostle.
At the service, the church also ordained 17 elders and five ministers, solemnly charging them to faithfully discharge their sacred duties in the service of God and humanity.
Declaration
The solemn declarations that Apostle Jude Hama publicly and emotionally uttered included one that upheld the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
He was asked, “Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and that the Holy Scriptures are the word of God to make us wise unto salvation through faith in him?”
Apostle Jude Hama’s resounding response, “I do, with all my heart”, echoed through the corridors of his ministry. He also resolved, “I have heard the call of Christ, and in the words of Isaiah, I respond, ‘Here am I. Send me.’”
Apostolic mission
Prior to this sacred moment, the ordination clergy outlined a most colourful apostolic mission to which Apostle Jude Hama had dedicated his life.
His Christian leadership role as an apostle includes serving on the ministry of the Ghana Fellowship of Evangelical Students (GHAFES) and later the General Director/CEO of Scripture Union for 20 years.
His evangelism competence has led him to serve as national chairman of the Ghana Evangelism Committee, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association mission, board member of the Lausanne Movement in Africa, and the Global Evangelical Church, among others.
Currently, Apostle Jude Hama is the founder and president of the Africa Bible Centre for Disciple-making (ABCD).
Moreover, he is regularly sought after to speak at Christian and church conferences worldwide.
Holy Spirit
Jude was led to Christ through Scripture Union ministry while at Mawuli School, Ho, where he encountered the Holy Spirit infilling.
Years later, as a student at the University of Ghana, he met a newly born-again student, Bethel Donkor, who, today, is a lawyer in his own chambers.
“Bethel,” he asked him, “since accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, have you received the Holy Spirit?”
Like the disciples Paul met in Ephesus, Bethel did not yet know about the Holy Spirit. So Jude Hama led him to the “upper room” of the Legon Hall porters’ lodge, where he prayed for him to receive the Holy Spirit.
“I will never forget this experience,” Bethel recalls, regretting that family engagements deprived him of the opportunity to witness the consecration and affirmation of Jude Hama as Apostle.
