Larteh Health Centre gets laboratory

Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) Limited has inaugurated a new laboratory for the Larteh Health Centre in the Eastern Region, to improve healthcare access and delivery in Larteh and its surrounding communities.

The well-equipped facility, which forms part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility (CSR), will also aid in early disease detection through routine screening and tests, allowing for quicker intervention and better health outcomes.

While acknowledging the resilience and progress of the community as evident in their indigenous dedication to business and agriculture, the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Daniel Wilson Addo, lamented how the absence of a laboratory at the health facility had created challenges.

“This facility, which has served the community for many years, was in need of this critical addition. Our inquiry confirmed that until now, patients had to travel to Mampong for lab tests, often at great convenience and cost,” he added.

The CBG MD said the laboratory would, therefore, put an end to the need for long trips to access such services and provide timely and accurate medical testing “right here in the heart of the community”.

Social responsibility

“Our corporate social responsibility initiatives are built on core pillars of health, community development and education. Through these pillars, we contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, addressing key areas that drive progress and well-being,” Mr Addo said.

The Deputy Director in charge of Nursing and Midwifery Services at the Akuapem North Health Directorate, Regina Akweley Klutse, reiterated the crucial role laboratory services within healthcare facilities play in relation to quality and effective healthcare delivery.

"I believe that this intervention will help meet the health needs of the people for better and improved health care services. Out of the four health centres in the municipality, it is only the Larteh Health Centre that is having a laboratory for the first time, which will go a long way to help in meeting the health needs of the people,” she said.

Appeal

The Chief of Larteh Kubease, Nana Acheampong Otu Agyemfra, appealed for more infrastructural assistance, saying: "We are deeply grateful for the establishment of this ultra-modern laboratory. However, we still have some pressing needs that we hope can be addressed.

“We urgently require an ambulance to facilitate the transfer of patients to the Mampong Hospital when necessary. Additionally, we are in need of a theatre to enable us to perform surgeries and other medical procedures.”

“Furthermore, we do not have any banking services in Larteh, and we kindly request that Consolidated Bank Ghana Ltd should consider opening a branch here. We are willing to provide land for this purpose.”
