Majority Leader supports Gbewaa Palace construction

The Majority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has donated an amount of GH¢200,000 towards the construction of the new Gbewaa Palace.

The palace's appeal resonated with him during a courtesy call on the Overlord of Dagbon during a health walk organised by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Yendi Constituency.

The Member of Parliament for the Yendi Constituency, Farouk Aliu Mahama, facilitated the donation last Monday at the Gbewaa palace.

A representative of the Overlord, Ya-Na Abukari II, who is also the Chairman of the building committee, Na-Yab Kug Naa Adam Abdulai, expressed gratitude, stating that the funds would significantly aid the construction to modern standards.

He acknowledged previous donations but emphasised the need for continued support to construct the palace up to standard which would reflect the history of the Dagbon Kingdom.

"The amount donated would go a long way to support the construction of the palace. A lot of donations have come but they’re not enough; we still need more," he said.

He explained that the palace had relocated nearby houses to make way for the development through the donation of others.

Palace for all

He said once constructed, the new Gbewaa Palace would be for the entire world and the Dagbon Kingdom and the recognition of the Majority Leader of the importance of the project was highly commendable.

Na-Yab Kugu-Naa indicated that Dagbon’s development went beyond the construction of the palace and much support was needed to develop the enclave and the country at large.

He urged all and sundry, especially Dagombas in and outside Ghana to come together and contribute their quota for the construction of the palace.

The Member of Parliament for the Yendi Constituency said during the appeal, the Majority Leader observed that the Gbewaa Palace did not live up to its name in terms of grandeur and warmth.

He added that more donations to support the construction of the new Gbewaa Palace would come when the need arose.
