Make way for Beach Road expansion — MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Krowor Municipal Assembly (KroMA), Mr Joshua Nii Bortey, has appealed to taxi ranks along the Beach Road to make way for the reconstruction of the Accra -Tema Beach Road.

Mr Bortey, who made the appeal during an engagement with some taxi and other commercial vehicle operators along the shoulders of the roads, said there was a need to evacuate them to pave way for the expansion of the beach road.

He indicated that as part of measures put in place to help the drivers not to lose their source of income, the assembly was engaging their leadership to relocate them.

"The drivers are being engaged by the assembly to identify their problems and help find an amicable solution to them," he said.

The MCE said although major taxi ranks along the shoulders of the road would be gravely affected, the assembly in consultation with the authorities would devise suitable means for those taxis to operate.

He added that the expansion of the road had been long overdue, stressing that every individual must champion the cause of the ongoing expansion project to enhance the free flow of traffic on the stretch.

COVID 19

On the COVID-19 infection rate, Mr Bortey stressed that the pandemic was still prevalent in the country and encouraged the drivers to always be in the face masks and regularly use hand sanitisers to safeguard themselves and their passengers.

He presented the drivers and their conductors with hand sanitiser and face masks to help curb the spread of the pandemic.

Safe driving

The Kpeshie Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Stella Ewool, who accompanied the MCE, enlightened the drivers on safe driving, especially on the use of mobile phone while driving.

She said in recent times, poor concentration on the part of drivers had resulted in many accidents on the roads. She said that that could be curtailed if drivers remained cautious while driving.
