Narcotic bust: 2 Suspects remanded

Narcotic bust: 2 Suspects remanded TWO suspects arrested in Tema in connection with a narcotic drugs haul have been remanded into police custody by a Circuit Court in Tema.

The suspects were arraigned before the Tema Circuit Court B last Tuesday and were remanded into police custody to reappear on January 28, this year.

The court was presided over by Cynthia Wiredu, a High Court judge sitting as an additional Circuit Court judge, while the prosecution was led by Emmanuel Kraku Mensah.

The two suspects, whose pleas were not taken, are Isaac Odoi, aged 33, and Kwame Mani, aged 39.

They were arrested following an intelligence-led operation by the Tema Regional Police Command, which resulted in the interception of 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs along the Akosombo–Tema road.

The operation took place in the early hours of last Saturday and forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to clamp down on drug trafficking within the region and beyond.

Police say the interception was one of the most significant drug busts recorded in the region in recent times.

Police said the suspects were transporting large quantities of suspected narcotic substances from the Volta Region towards Tema.

Acting on the intelligence, police mounted surveillance teams along the suspected route, concentrating on the Agomeda Junction area.

This led to the interception of two vehicles — a white Toyota Highlander with registration number GS 2013-13 and a black Mitsubishi Pajero with registration number GC 400-22 — which were being used by the suspects.

A search conducted on the vehicles revealed several compressed, yellow-wrapped parcels suspected to be narcotic drugs.

The suspects were immediately arrested and, together with the vehicles, escorted to the police station for further investigations.

On Monday, January 12, 2026, the suspects and the exhibits were handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Tema. Police said photographs were taken and inventories prepared.

Further investigations revealed that 872 parcels were retrieved from the Mitsubishi Pajero, while 741 parcels were found in the Toyota Highlander, bringing the total number of seized parcels to 1,613.

The Head of Public Relations at the Tema Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dede Dzakpasu, told the Daily Graphic that samples of the seized substances had been sent to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for analysis, adding that the value of the seized substances would be determined after the forensic assessment.
