Awukugua gets new Mponuahene

Okweredom Owusu Obuobi I has been enstooled Mponuahene of Awukugua in the Nifa Division of the Akuapem Traditional Area in the Eastern Region.

Okweredom Obuobi, 59, a Football Coach by profession, succeeds the late Nana Kantinka Addy, who reigned for over 20 years.

The new Mponuahene, who coached Waeco Football Club at Adanse Praso in the Ashanti Region and another football club in New York, United States of America (USA), swore the oath of allegiance to the Awukuguahene, Osabarima Opese Konadu II, the queenmother, and elders of Awukugua last December.

The new chief hails from Akyemede (Asona Clan) of the Royal Family of Awukugua.

Rightful person

At a short but colourful ceremony held at Awukugua to introduce him to the gathering, the Chief of Awukugua, Osabarima Opese Konadu II, who was visibly happy, stated that the family had chosen the rightful person to succeed the late chief.

The Awukuguahene indicated that the town, which is known for peace and togetherness, needs someone with a solid background capable of unifying the people to spearhead the development of the town.

Support

Osabarima Opese Konadu asked all and sundry to support Okweredom Obuobi I to enable him to execute his duties since he could not do that alone.

He was hopeful that the new Mponuahene would live up to expectations and uphold his pledge.

Osabarima Opese Konadu wished Okweredom Obuobi well and called on the chiefs and people of the town to give him their support to succeed.

He urged Okweredom Obuobi to be truthful and sincere in his dealings with the people and at the same time, serve with humility.

Okweredom Owusu Obuobi, for his part, was very grateful to the kingmakers for choosing him for such an enviable traditional position.

He pledged that since the stool elders had confidence in him, he would also reciprocate the gesture and would not disappoint them.

“What I need from you is your maximum support and sense of direction to enable me to perform my traditional duties effectively and efficiently.

"Our elders have a wise saying that the one constructing the path does not know how it meanders until his or her attention is drawn to it," Okweredom Obuobi.

He, therefore, pleaded with the chiefs and people of the town not to hesitate to draw his attention when he went wrong in the course of performing his traditional duties.
