The Director, Professionals Ministry, Anglican Dioceses of Accra and a member of the Rotarian Club of Accra-Labone, Gifty E. Annan-Myers, who made the call, said having multiple career paths was a smart financial decision which was beneficial in the rapid changing global job market.

She also advised professionals to expand their skills to remain competitive in the global job markets.

Mrs Annan-Myers was speaking at the maiden Professionals Ministry Gathering held at St Anthony of Padua Anglican Church, Abelemkpe in Accra recently.

The gathering was to unite the church professionals to advance the mission of the ministry.

It brought together professionals in the Anglican Diocese such as architects, legal practitioners, medical practitioners, human resources professionals, media professionals, entrepreneurs and others.

It was to create a platform for professionals within the church to use their skills to benefit both the church and the wider community.

Mrs Annan-Myers, therefore, urged professionals to continuously improve themselves, saying, "improve yourself, because once you improve, people will buy you at whatever price you're selling. But if you don’t, they’ll always go for the best option available."

She encouraged them to look out for mentors who could help them see beyond their current roles and explore new avenues.

“It’s through mentorship that you realise what you can do. Some mentors will say: ‘I think you can do this,’ or ‘I think you can do that’ and that is how you discover yourself,” she added.

Mrs Annan-Myers urged them to remain open to new possibilities and not to underestimate the value of skills they may not know they possessed.

“Most professionals already have latent skills that when mentored can be developed further into a secondary profession,” she said.

The Founder and Chief Learning Strategist, TEMPLE Advisory, Robert Bennin, said professionals could contribute meaningfully to society while embracing their spiritual duties.

He advised them to raise their expectations and pay attention to the value of their work in both the physical and spiritual realms.

Professionals, he said, must have a manifesto, unlike politicians, to guide their work, adding that , “they must maintain high standards, follow ethical principles, and approach their tasks with dedication, regardless of their field, whether as carpenters, doctors, or drivers”.

Mr Bennin stressed that professionals should not only focus on their skills and craft but also on how they could serve God through their work.

Quoting 2 Timothy 2:20-21, he urged them to be vessels for special purposes, saying, “the mindset that professionals must have is simple: Whatever we do, we do it unto the Lord”.
