The 25th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) is preparing to elect a new Clerk to succeed the current Clerk, Rev. Dr Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor, whose tenure ends in December.
The election will be one of the key highlights of the meeting, which opens today for the in-person session at Nkwatia-Kwahu in the Eastern Region.
The assembly, which began with a virtual session last week, is being held on the theme: "Celebrating our heritage; building on the foundation already laid".
The event is being attended by 300 commissioners, corresponding members, and observers from all 21 Presbyteries, as well as from the church’s overseas missions and ecumenical partners.
The participants of the assembly, led by the Moderator, Rt Rev. Dr Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, would set an agenda for the ecclesiastical year and develop strategies to enhance the global missionary agenda.
All set

"All is set for the General Assembly, which will this year take place at the Rock City Hotel at Nkwatia Kwahu," he said.
Rev. Dr Odonkor explained that the General Assembly would be a period for the ministers to reflect on the work done since the last meeting and also plan for the future, as the Church prepared for its bicentennial.
“The General Assembly, as has always been the case, will be a time for us to reflect on activities and mission of the work that God has assigned the Church to consider, and learn God’s will and purpose for the Church for the new year and the future,” he stated.
Election
Apart from receiving special guests of honour to address the assembly, the moderator, during the period, will share his vision in his address and give a charge for the Church for the next year.
The clerk, on the other hand, will deliver his report on the state of the Church.
Rev. Dr Odonkor also confirmed that the General Assembly would elect his successor, but declined to indicate the number of ministers who had declared their interest in succeeding him.
"By God's grace, my tenure as Clerk ends in December.
And as is the tradition, the General Assembly will have to elect a new Clerk.
We all have been praying about it, and we believe God will be gracious to lead us to successfully go through the process," Rev. Dr Odonkor stated.
