Pediatokorpe honours 2 for humanitarian service to community

The Co-founders of Easy Water for Everyone (EWE), an International NGO, Nathan Levin and Linda Donald, have been enstooled as development chiefs of the Pediatokorpe community in the Ada East District of the Greater Accra Region.

At a durbar held in their honour for their enduring humanitarian service and to mark the organisation’s 10th anniversary in Ghana last Monday, Nathan Levin was enstooled under the name Nene Pakporm Nyukpakpa Noryami Mantse, to wit, the Ada Islands Water and Health Development Chief.

Linda Donald was given Naana Pakporm Nyukpakpa Noryami Manye, the Ada Islands Water and Health Development Queen Mother.

The two were conferred with chieftaincy titles in recognition of their exceptional contributions towards improving access to clean water and advancing public health in underserved communities.

Amidst rich cultural and traditional displays, featuring traditional performances by local students, the celebration fostered a deep bond between the organisation and residents of Pediatokorpe.

Appreciation, commitment

Reflecting on the milestone, Nathan Levin expressed gratitude to the people of Pediatokorpe for the honour done them, saying, “We are truly grateful. It is a great pleasure and this moment will remain in our hearts.”

He emphasised that their project was a call to humanity and affirmed their commitment to helping address the basic needs of marginalised communities across Africa.

Also, the Country Director of EWE, Harrison Matti, stated, “We are committed to scaling up our efforts across the country.

We invite organisations that are passionate about providing clean water to deprived communities in Ghana to partner with us.

Together, we can reach more people and create a lasting impact.”

Contribution

Speaking at the durbar, the Medical Superintendent of the Ada East District Hospital, Dr Philip Narh, commended the co-founders for their invaluable contributions.

He recounted that during the recent Akosombo Dam disaster, which caused severe flooding, displacement and a cholera outbreak, communities equipped with Easy Water’s filtration systems, particularly Pediatokorpe, were largely spared from waterborne illnesses.

The Member of Parliament for Ada East, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, also lauded the co-founders, recounting her visit to the USA, where she learned firsthand of their sacrifices.

“Nathan and Linda used their retirement savings to fund this mission.

Their passion and selflessness continue to touch countless lives and we are grateful,” she stated.

Mission

Founded a decade ago, the EWE has been at the forefront of addressing water scarcity in remote and marginalised communities.

Using innovative, sustainable and electricity-free filtration systems, the organisation has provided clean, safe drinking water to more than 30,000 people in over 40 communities across Ghana, Senegal and Uganda.

As part of its ongoing social support initiatives, the NGO has also recently donated a two-bedroom house to Patricia Owula, a victim of the Akosombo Dam spillage at Kewuse, Ada.

It also donated 50 bags of cement to Daniel Gidimajor, a native, to support reconstruction efforts.
