QNET, EOCO partner to dismantle fraudulent criminal networks

QNET, a lifestyle and wellness company, has formed a strategic partnership with the Economic and Organised Crime Office to dismantle the activities of criminal networks.

The fraudulent activities include illegal migration schemes, human trafficking operations, fake job offers, scholarship scams and false promises of international opportunities aimed at exploiting Ghanaians and other West Africans.

The Chief Communications Officer of QI Group, the parent company of QNET, Ramya Chandrasekaran, who made this known at a media briefing in Accra today (July 15, 2025), said the strategic partnership, which was anchored on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), was a unified response to combat fraudulent activities and also protect vulnerable individuals from the exploitation of scammers.

She, therefore, expressed the determination of the two institutions, QNET and the Economic and Organised Crime Unit (EOCO), to protect the public and hold the criminal networks accountable.

“This collaboration reflects the shared concern of both EOCO and QNET over the deceptive practices of criminal syndicates which use fake job offers, scholarship scams and false promises of international opportunities to exploit Ghanaians and other West Africans.

The scammers often misuse the names of legitimate international companies to lend credibility to their operations and deceive unsuspecting victims,” she added.

Shared mission

Over the past few years, QNET has actively undertaken several public awareness initiatives and media engagements, educational outreach, and stakeholder collaborations in Ghana to help communities identify and avoid fraudulent schemes.

In August 2024, QNET launched the nationwide "QNET Against Scams" campaign, which utilised radio, television, social media and billboards to alert the public to common scam tactics.

Ms  Chandrasekaran said “This cooperation is not just a partnership between a private company but the coming together of two entities with one shared mission to protect innocent lives from the deception and cruelty of organised crime syndicates.

She said the people behind these scams were not just tarnishing the name of QNET, but destroying lives, pointing out that “We have over the last two years done everything in our power to combat this issue.”

Ms Chandrasekaran expressed the hope that through the collaboration, there would be collective strength to fight against crime, disrupt those criminal networks  and educate communities even in the most remote parts of the country.

“Together, we can give the victims a voice, and the potential victims a shield. As part of this collaboration, we will be launching sensitisation virtuals, intensify our ongoing media campaigns, and share critical intelligence to support enforcement activities.

We will not stop until every guardian on this can see how these cameras operate, and every criminal using our name knows that they have been watched,” she assured.

Collaboration

The Executive Director of  EOCO, Raymond Archer, described the collaboration as a significant step towards combating organised and cross-border crime in Ghana.

He stated that through the partnership, QNET and EOCO were seeking to leverage their expertise and resources to disrupt and dismantle the criminal networks, protect the citizens and maintain the integrity of the economy.

Mr Archer further outlined the roles EOCO would be playing to nip the practice in the bud, saying , EOCO would support the proactive investigation and disruption of criminal schemes involving brand impersonation and fraud.

“Facilitate knowledge exchange and capacity building on detecting and preventing fraud and human trafficking, Raise public awareness about how syndicates operate and the signs of a potential scam and share information on suspicious activities in a structured and timely manner to improve enforcement action,” he said.
