Quantity surveyors host global built industry conference

The Quantity Surveying Division of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors is to host a conference of professionals in the built industry from around the world in Accra beginning Monday, October 21, 2024.

The quantity surveying division is part of the International Cost Engineering Council.

The three-day conference, scheduled to end on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, will be on the theme: “Reimagining the future of construction cost management: Sustainability and the digital frontier.”
 

Participants

Speaking to the media ahead of the event, the Chairman of the Quantity Surveying Division of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors, Osei Agyeman-Badu, indicated that the conference would bring together members, as well as those of the Association of African Quantity Surveyors, Cost Engineers and other professionals in the built environment.

Mr Agyeman-Badu said the conference would be attended by participants from the Pacific, Asia, Europe, Africa and other parts of the world.

He added that papers would be presented on topics such as artificial intelligence, cost control, people management on-site and others.

Preparation

The President of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS), Dr Anthony Arko-Adjei, said that the country had been preparing to host the event since 2017.

He added that just as it got the nod to host in 2020 event, COVID-19 struck, a situation that denied the nation the opportunity. 

Dr Arko-Adjei said the country worked hard to obtain the renewed mandate to host the event in 2024.

He expressed optimism that the conference would help to shape perspectives on new trends and hot-button issues in the world of science and technology.

“This conference is about knowing the trends in construction, especially with the influence of technology. We are looking at the digital frontiers,” he said.

On opportunities it could bring to the institution, Dr Arko-Adjei said since it was going to be a gathering of people from different professional institutions and backgrounds, the conference would offer the opportunity for participants to interact with one another and learn from best practices.

“Presenters from here will tell us our side of the story and those who are coming from outside will tell us their story as well.

“It will allow us to network as well,” he added.
