Ga Traditional Council honours First Lady

The Ga Traditional Council has conferred the title Naa Awo Kpakpa Okaikor Olefeonii I on the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, for her “numerous contributions” to the welfare of the Ga State.

The title was conferred on the First Lady after she unveiled a renovated Ga Traditional Council building in Accra last Monday.

The Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, on behalf of the people, extended his gratitude to Mrs Akufo-Addo and all stakeholders whose tireless efforts and unwavering commitment made the successful redevelopment of the Ga Traditional Council building a reality.

He described the contribution of the First Lady to the people of Ga over the years as encouraging, saying those gestures would bolster the council’s ability to strengthen community ties, preserve cultural traditions and foster the socio-economic growth of the country.

The Ga Mantse, however, appealed for more support to improve infrastructure in the capital, while pledging the Ga State’s commitment to collaborate with development partners to help improve the lives of the people.

Loyalty

“As a proud and true daughter of the Ga State, I pay homage to my King, His Royal Highness King Tackie Teiko Tsuru, Members of the Ga Traditional Council, Nii Mei and Na Mei. You have truly been worthy custodians of our traditions and values as a people,” the First Lady said.

The First Lady explained that “a couple of years ago, my attention was drawn to the need to renovate and modernise the building, which hosts the Ga Traditional Council, our sacred institution that sees to the affairs of the Ga State”.

“For me, this was a call to duty. A call to be of service to my people. As a proud Ga woman, I am fulfilled to have been able to deliver this key project on my exit as First Lady of Ghana.

“I am happy to disclose that our President and my husband, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who has great affection and respect for the Ga State, and who considers himself a Ga by adoption, was extremely supportive of this project”.

“Today, I stand here with mixed feelings. I have been blessed and honoured to be the First Lady of our dear nation Ghana. At the same time, I realise it is time to say goodbye as January 7, 2025 approaches. I thank you all for the immense support shown me during my tenure,” she said.

Projects

The First Lady further said that she had executed a number of projects and initiatives across the country through the Rebecca Foundation in health, education and women's economic empowerment.

“In the Ga State, the foundation has delivered many projects, including premium health facilities, libraries, schools, skills training and funds for women. I thank you all, Nii Mei, Naa Mei, Wulomei and people of the Ga State, for your encouragement.

“As I leave, I wish to encourage you all to share the good news of the unprecedented developmental projects by the NPP government. I encourage you all to vote massively for Dr Bawumia in the upcoming elections. I can vouch for Dr Bawumia. He is a man who is a visionary and strategic leader, and has the welfare of Ghanaians at heart,” she said.

Introduction

The First Lady took the opportunity to introduce the wife of the NPP vice-presidential candidate, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, to the council, saying “let me also take this opportunity to introduce the wife of our vice-presidential candidate, Alma Naa Dzama Adade Prempeh, another proud daughter of Ga.

“I will like to assure you that she will continue with this beautful relationship I have established with you. She wil listen, respect, honour you and work in your best interest”.
