SDA Church embarks on 200-bed hospital project at Ho-Hopedo
The Seventh-Day Adventist Church (SDA) has started the construction of a 200-bed hospital project at Ho-Hopedo.
The project, estimated to cost £250,000 (GH¢5.2 million), is being supported by a community development group, the Health for All Mission, UK and is expected to be completed in five years.
Though the SDA operates 36 hospitals and clinics in the country, including specialist facilities, the Ho-Hopedo hospital project is the first of its kind in the Volta Region.
Sod-cutting
Performing the sod-cutting at the project site last Wednesday the Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Divine Richard Komla Bosson, commended the SDA for responding to the basic needs of the community, saying the project was a timely and worthy development intervention by the church.
“There is no doubt that the project, when completed, would bring healthcare service closer to the doors of the people of Ho-Hopedo,” he stated.
Mr Bosson, therefore, entreated the residents to support the project in various ways to ensure its timely completion.
The Ho Municipal Director of Health Services, Perfect Titiati, said although the municipality had 37 health facilities attending to a population of more than 180,000, there was the challenge of geographically accessing quality health service.
Miss Titiati thus said the SDA hospital project was appropriate and strategic because of its location in a community which was developing rapidly.
She gave an assurance that the municipal directorate of health would support the project and help the hospital carry out its functions effectively when it was completed.
Spreading the gospel
The President of the Volta Mission of the SDA, Pastor S.Y. Agboado, described the project as a dream come true to propagate the word of God through service to humanity.
The Leader of the Health for All Mission, UK, Pastor Seth Adjare, said the project was in line with the group’s vision and ambition to serve communities and improve the lives of the people.
The assembly member for Ho-Hopedo, Samuel Bewiadzi Akakpo, thanked the SDA for the choice of the hospital project and said when completed, the hospital would be a huge source of relief for the people.
Meanwhile, the SDA church in Ho has improved the structures at a pastor’s residence beside the project site to operate as a clinic in the interim.
