Shai-Osudoku procures 3 vehicles to boost revenue mobilisation

The Shai–Osudoku District Assembly (SODA) in the Greater Accra Region has procured three pick-up vehicles for effective revenue mobilisation and administrative work.

Commissioning the vehicles on the SODA premises at Dodowa, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Ignatius Godfred Dordoe, explained that the vehicles were procured with internally generated funds to augment the aged fleet of vehicles.

Revenue target

Mr Dordoe further stated that the assembly had targeted to collect more revenue this year to effectively undertake its developmental activities as outlined in its budget, saying new vehicles were crucial to achieving its revenue mobilisation goals.

“As an assembly, we realised that to discharge our duties efficiently and effectively, particularly in revenue mobilisation, the purchase of the vehicles became mandatory,” Mr Dordoe explained.

He explained that when he assumed office, he realised that the assembly’s vehicles were outmoded, greatly impacting efficiency and output.

As a result, he said some of the vehicles were auctioned, leaving the assembly with very few vehicles.

Mr Dordoe said, consequently, performing official and legitimate functions of the assembly were becoming a problem, adding, “very often when officers are on official assembly duties, the vehicles break down on the way, and they have to find other means of getting the official duties performed.”

Mr Dordoe said all these challenges made the assembly take the bold decision to purchase the vehicles to augment the fleet and to enable officials to perform their duties without hindrance.

Maintenance

The DCE charged officials of the assembly to ensure the vehicles were properly maintained to increase their life span, saying that often, people who use the assembly’s vehicles do not take good care of them.

“We are to take good care of official vehicles just as we do our own properties or vehicles,” he stressed.

Advise

He advised the drivers, as first users of the vehicles, to be guided by the assembly's transport policies in maintaining the vehicles.

He appealed to all residents of the district to see the purchase of the vehicles and all other ongoing development activities in the district as signs of good policies and support the assembly in revenue mobilisation by paying their taxes.
