SMOGA 2007 donates to Korle Bu Polyclinic

The 2007 Year Group of the St Mary’s Old Girls’ Association (SMOGA) donated sanitary items to the Korle Bu Polyclinic last Friday as part of their 18th anniversary activities.

The donation included disinfectants, antiseptics, soaps, tissue rolls and other toiletries.

The President of the year group, Augustina Amma Arhin, handed over the items to the clinic near the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

She indicated that the gesture was to appreciate the clinic’s role in the lives of students of the St Mary Girls Senior High School and the community.

She explained the emotional significance of the gesture, saying, “This clinic meant so much to us during our school days. Many of us received basic healthcare here and it served as a quiet refuge when school became overwhelming", she said.

The Acting Head of the Polyclinic and Family Medicine Department, Dr George Nketiah, received the items on behalf of the hospital.

"The clinic appreciates this gesture, and it truly shows that the bond between the Korle Bu Polyclinic and the St Mary Girls SHS is always special", Dr Nketiah said.

He also acknowledged that alumni contributions are vital in bridging resource gaps in public healthcare facilities.

More to come

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Organising Secretary of the group, Naa Norley Boateng, disclosed that the group would continue giving back to society in various ways.

“There will be more donations from us. Not necessarily to health centres only — we want to diversify our social impact and explore different avenues of support," she stated.

Mrs Boateng then appealed to other year groups from St Mary’s and other institutions to mobilise and support their alma mater and broader communities.

“We are not just supporting ourselves, but also future generations. We are building a better path for those who come after us," she added.

The organising secretary also added they were committed to long-term social engagement and broader community impact in the upcoming milestones.

Anniversary celebrations

SMOGA 2007 began its 18th anniversary celebration with a health walk, a wellness talk and a throwback session.

The week-long programme aimed to help the group members reconnect and contribute to their alma mater and the community.
