Supt Opoku donates to Prisons Medicine and Equipment Bank
A communication strategist and a member of staff of the Public Affairs Department of the Prisons Headquarters, Superintendent of Prisons, Samuel Kofi Opoku, has donated 40 boxes of 500ml urine bags to the Ghana Prisons Medicine and Equipment Bank as his contribution in ensuring quality healthcare delivery for prison inmates.
The gesture was in fulfilment of a pledge he made during the launch of the Ghana Prisons Medicine and Equipment Bank on March 26, 2026, at the Ringway Assemblies of God conference room.
Donations
After the pledge, the moderator of the event, Supt Kofi Opoku, then appealed to guests and stakeholders present to masively donate to the bank.
Among the dignitaries who donated or pledged were the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak; Deputy Minister of Health and Member of Parliament of Esikado-Ketan, Dr Grace Ayensu-Dankwah, who was the special guest of honour; Deputy Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and MP for La Dade Kotopon, Rita Odoley Sowah, and the Director-General of Prisons, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq).
The Chairman of the Pharmacy Council of Ghana, Joseph Yieleh Chireh; the Chairman of the Prisons Service Council, Aps Alexander Kumi Larbi, and some officers in charge of Prisons facilities across the country donated moneys through the Prison Improvement and Sustainability Pesewa (PISPES).
Some notable pharmaceutical and medical supply companies also donated assorted medicines to the bank.
Appeal
Supt Opoku appealed to corporate bodies, philanthropists and religious organisations to support such a worthy course either by donating cash through the PISPES short code *972*1*3100# on all networks, or medicines and medical supplies to ensure quality healthcare delivery at all prisons health facilities across the country.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Director-General of Prisons, a member of the Medicine and Equipment Bank management committee, Deputy Superintendent of Prisons Akwasi Peprah Tabiri, expressed gratitude to Supt Opoku for his commendable advocacy and donation to the Prisons Medicine and Equipment Bank.
He gave the assurance that the items would be used for their intended purposes.
