Suspected armed robber extradited from Togo to face charges in Ghana

A suspected armed robber alleged to be behind a series of high-profile robberies in affluent neighbourhoods, including East Legon and Cantonments, has been extradited from Togo to face charges in Ghana.

The suspect, Adina Akpo Abdou Moudjibou, a.k.a Mohammed Djandjo, who carried out his suspected dastardly activities between 2022 and 2024, was arrested from his hideout in Togo following a collaboration between the Ghana Police Service and the Togolese Police.

The suspect, who had been on the police radar since October 2023, was arrested by Togolese authorities on January 30, 2025.

A five-member team led by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, travelled to the Togolese capital aboard a military aircraft to complete the transfer.

Briefing

Addressing a news conference in Accra last Saturday, the Director-General of CID of the Ghana Police Service said the suspect was believed to have operated alongside another accomplice, Alidu Marzouk, also known as Rashid Bawa, Maxwell, Papa Rich or Dawa.

DCOP Donkor added that while Marzouk was arrested by the Ghana police on September 4, last year, and subsequently remanded by the court to assist in the investigation, Moudjibou, on the other hand, evaded arrest and was believed to have fled the country to Togo, Cote d'Ivoire, or Nigeria.

“Investigations revealed that suspect Abdul Moudjibou possessed both Ghanaian and Togolese identification documents,” the CID boss said.

She told journalists that a warrant for his arrest was therefore issued by the Adabraka District Court on September 5, 2024, and he was subsequently listed on INTERPOL's Red Notice, adding that intelligence gathered further confirmed that suspect Moudjibou was hiding in Togo.

INTERPOL

In view of this, she said INTERPOL Accra requested the assistance of INTERPOL Lomé to locate and apprehend the suspect.

On January 30, 2025, she said through sustained collaboration and intelligence work, the Togolese authorities successfully arrested suspect Moudjibou in Lomé.

He was held in custody pending the completion of required judicial and administrative processes for his handing over to Ghana.

She commended the Togo National Police Force, INTERPOL Lomé, and officials of the Ghana Embassy in Togo for their invaluable support and collaboration in the operation. Adding,

“I  am equally grateful to all our officers who played diverse roles towards the success of this operation.

“This success once again highlights the importance of regional cooperation in tackling transnational crime and bringing offenders to justice,” she said.

DCOP Donkor assured the public that investigations were ongoing and efforts were in place to apprehend the remaining suspect, who is at large.

“We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all persons in the country,” she stated.
