UDS confers honorary doctorate on founder, College of Science and Technology
The University for Development Studies (UDS) has conferred a Doctor of Human Letters (LHD, Honoris Causa) on the founder of Northern College of Science and Technology, Nathaniel Nii Sasah Adams Jnr., for his remarkable contribution to the advancement of society.
The prestigious award is in recognition of his substantial contribution to sustainable development, education and social entrepreneurship in northern Ghana.

The conferment of the honorary degree makes him an alumnus of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor of UDS, Professor Seidu Al-Hassan, and the Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Wayo Seini, jointly decorated Dr Adams Jnr. at the 25th congregation of the university in Tamale last Saturday.

Prof. Al-Hassan acknowledged Dr Adams Jnr. for his dedication and resilience in championing development issues in the region and northern Ghana at large.
He said his work was in line with the mission of the university which aimed to improve lives through community-driven education and development.
"After today, you will become part of the university alumni association, so, I urge you to use your influence and wide network to advocate the development and progress of UDS," he said.

Dr Adams Jnr, who is also a development practitioner, expressed gratitude to the university for the honour done him.

He said the gesture was not only an honour, but a challenge for him to do more for the forward march of the north and the nation in general.
The awardee expressed his unwavering commitment to giving out his best for the growth and progress of the university, adding that "this honour from UDS is not only for me but for everyone who has been a part of this journey”.
“I am inspired to continue working towards a future where every community can access education, clean water and sustainable development.
"I have been working in my small corner for the past two and half decades, I never knew that people were watching me," he said.

Dr Adams further said that the north abounded with numerous potential and resources which, when exploited, could help open up the area for investments to improve the livelihood of the people.
Background
With a background in Geophysical Data Management, his career began in 2000, with the Community Water and Sanitation Agency in Tamale, where he assisted the Zonal Hydrogeologist.
His commitment and expertise quickly propelled him to leadership roles.

By 2002, he was made the Head of the Technical Department at Rural Water Development Project, and in 2007, he became the Project Manager, overseeing technical operations and development strategies of the organisation.
In 2019, he became the Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Water & Development Programme, Ghana, driving strategic water and sanitation projects to improve rural livelihoods.
His impact in the water sector earned him respect as an expert and a reliable advocate for sustainable development.

Driven by a desire to enhance educational opportunities in the region, Dr Adams Jnr. founded the Northern College of Science and Technology in Yendi, in 2013.
The college has since become an influential institution, equipping young people with the technical skills needed for modern industries, especially in science and technology.
He has also served on the Yendi Municipal Health Committee and the Yendi Municipal Hospital Advisory Committee, working to improve health outcomes in rural areas.
He also holds a board position with PawerSol Company Limited, a private entity, and serves as the Board Chairman of JAK Solar Technology, where he promotes clean energy solutions for under-served communities.
